Evgeniy Afonin, born in 1983, is a new media and technology-based visual artist, TouchDesigner developer, and educator currently based in Tel-Aviv. Eugene specializes in creating immersive visual narratives, media scenography for multimedia performances, interactive art, and audio-visual real-time visuals. With over 13 years of experience in theater productions, his unique expertise has been recognized with prestigious awards in the field.
Eugene began his career as a VJ, transitioning to digital arts and new media in 2008, focusing on interactive design, generative systems, and natural human-computer interaction. As a co-founder of multiple creative ventures, Eugene has collaborated with various artists and organizations in the field of theater, gallery exhibitions, and commercial projects.
Since 2012, Eugene has been collaborating with Yan Kalnberzin in a creative duo called Curiosity Media Lab. Their partnership focuses on developing educational courses, as well as producing innovative projects and installations that blend art, technology, and theater. Their work showcases the potential for new media arts to engage audiences and create immersive experiences.
He has curated and participated in multiple exhibitions and AV concerts and leads educational programs, sharing his knowledge through workshops and masterclasses globally.
Throughout his career, Eugene has received various awards, including the esteemed "Golden Mask" theater award for "Lighting Design in Musical Theater," which recognized his interactive video and lighting design in the production of "Exhibit/Awakening." Additionally, he received the "Moscow Art Award" in the "Cinema" category for his work on "Gagarin. Lieutenant of the Sky."
With his extensive experience and passion for merging art and technology he continues to push the boundaries of new media art, theater, and performance, inspiring and educating the next generation of artists.
